A week ago I purchased a ‘big’ link on Text Link Ads, it was a $ 125 link but I used the $ 100 discount coupon (lucky me).
I did not reveal the link on my blog. But here it is: zeo.unic.net.my. I must be crazy to give them a backlink while I am paying them $ 125 and not getting any exposure / traffic, but what the heck.
Google Analytics is showing in my Referring Source only 1 visitor from zeo.unic.net.my
and the visitor did only viewed 1 page. Probably 1 second on my site. And that for a website with more than 88,000 backlinks and a pagerank of 7. My conclusion: It may be good for my pagerank but this link is definatly not worth the $ 125.
There are also good links for sale, like a link on the blog of John Chow. His paid advertisers are getting the exposure they need. They are getting traffic and even extra attention in some of his posts.
But while browsing sites on TLA, you cannot see the site (only a small thumbnail), and you don’t know the url after you paid. This is a lesson for me. I will not buy links again on TLA.

I think you’ve got a problem that’s two-fold.
First, the site has nothing to do with SEO, internet marketing, or anything that the people that read that blog will also want to read yours.
Secondly, you used the title of your site as the link text. I see this as a mistake because if I’m a new reader I have no idea what King Nomar dot Com is, nor do I really care. You should use something more descriptive that will entice people to visit.
Take a look at the other sponsored links and see which ones you yourself might be interested in clicking and use some of those type of techniques.
Unless you’re in a targeted market then all you’re going to get is a little indirect traffic from search engine love, not direct traffic from user clicks.

Often people buy backlinks on sites like the one you mention strictly for the page rank. For obvious reasons links you buy aren’t bound to generate incoming traffic as they often don’t actually have anything to do with the pages they are listed on. The poster above is correct - the text title for your link is key - both in terms of visitors and pagerank. Google gives you credit for the words listed in the text link.
Actually that price on a pr 7 website is pretty good.
Remember that your blogs outgoing links should use a ref=”nofollow” so they don’t drain your pagerank.
The fact that any of this is important is a sad state of affairs. With a little knowledge people can SEO their websites above the competition. But all of this knowledge is important because it is currently the state of affairs if you want Google traffic.

Thanks Ryan and Steve, this is usefull information for me.
But, I searched this link on TLA in the blogging/webdevelopment section. So it should be some kind related to mine.
This was a mistake. I learn from this.
Thanks again

I never thought anyone would get burned like this with a textlinkad. Makes me think I should look long and hard before opting to buy one, even if pagerank7.
January 20th, 2007 at 10:37 am
Yes Jim, I am going to email TLA, maybe they have a clear statement about this.
January 20th, 2007 at 11:39 am
Sorry to hear it didn’t go well for you, but thanks for sharing since I’m looking into some link building via TLA.
You can always find the site by doing a pretty basic but smart Google search, the good advice (except comment #2) has been already given.

I still prefer the old fashioned method of talking with site owners, building a personal bond and then offering to exchange links.
January 20th, 2007 at 5:28 pm
>>Remember that your blogs outgoing links should use a ref=nofollow so they don’t drain your pagerank.
This is ridiculous. The biggest SEO blogs around don’t do this, so what makes you think you should?
This is bad advice that will limit the amount of people that will ever link back to you.

I do not use if ofcourse ! I think you have something wrong here Steve.
January 20th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
What do I have wrong? My system does not work for all types of sites but… I work freelance in the gaming industry, that line of work is all about networking contacts. Why should it be any different in the blogging world?
January 20th, 2007 at 8:18 pm
Lol, I do not mean you HMTK Steve,
I ment: ‘Steve Riley’
with his comments on using nofollow
January 20th, 2007 at 9:06 pm
Well… Everyone knows that the only Steve that matters around here is me!

Nomar, I really think that TLA is way overpriced. I think some of the previous commenters gave you some good advice. Just curious if you are in Sweden?… since you are using a .nu domain which is popular there.

I agree with the very first comment of Ryan. You should have found a related website. When I just started to advertise my website in summer, I bought a link to be displayed on PR7 website with several thousand pages. I bough it for $30 for 5 month. The offer was realy good, I found it on links for sale section of webmaster-talk.com forum. It boosted my PR from 0 to 3 in a week + I had about 100 visitors a month from there since it was a web related website.
There are several things you should do next time: a) Look for a site in the same category. b) Write a good catchy description c) shop around d) For $125 you could get 5 $25 PR5 PR6 websites and look which one works for you. e) I never payed more then $10 a month for PR5-6, just look around. for $125 or even $25 you could start a pretty good Cost Per Click campaign on AdBrite.
And ALWAYS Look for the most related websites.
P.S. Helpful post. You are doing a good job on a blog.
P.S.S. One more advice - blogs have broad topics. Unless it is like the one you are going to do - about hair, it is best just to get traffic from search engines. Do more SEO. Also, I had a friend back in college. His blog was making about $500-$600 a month although he had it for loong time… Most of his traffic was coming from search engines, however, he had other ways to advertise - do some digg. Instal some plugin so you can vote for an article from your site, do some videos, post them to your blog and youtube… There are millions of ways…
Do more link exchanges. Look around…
For example on addictads.com I am starting a new service where I would post all the directories I submit my site to, also, there is a section where I post websites which would like to exchange links, however I require a reciprocal. Do more research.
Good articles though. I like your blog. Read it every time I look through websites on addictads, making sure there are no popups and adult content…
The good thing is - the more articles you have - more search engine traffic… Write more unique and hard to find articles.

Hi Nomar,
There are more link development strategies out there now than ever before. If you would like to get a high page rank link, I can recommend you a link broker called http://www.linkexperts.com. They show you their actual inventory, and they have some very large publishers. Also I have a pretty extensive relationship with TLA or Text Link Ads, so they have given me access to view all the actual sites. I am sure before purchasing you can just call them, and get the actual URL over the phone or something. Another thing I can recommend fo you is purchasing some Blog Postings on High PR Blogs through PayPerPost, or some other service. This is a one time fee, and after a couple of PR updates this blog will get PR, and will also look very natural to the search engines.
