When I create a blog or website, I always try to get the most money out of it. Ofcourse this may not hurt my returning visitors. To much ads is a bad thing. But if you monetize your blog or website, you should do it for 100 %. You can use lots of programs for monetizing, like Google adsense, Yahoo publisher, Amazon, CJ, you name it. Currently I am only serving Google adsense on this blog. Earning around $ 1 a day.
Always keep your eyes open for new placement techniques and never stop tweaking your ads around the site, till you find the best performing spot for it.
While browsing some sites I came across a very interesting ad, I took a screenshot:

I was wondering if this ad was breaking Google’s rules. Because it definitely caught my attention when I was looking at the site and I had to check it out. Google has the following point:
- Publishers participating in the AdSense program May not direct user attention to the ads via arrows or other graphical gimmicks
The idea is original and well done. It almost looks like the girl is really holding the ad.

That is definitely against Google’s TOS. Cool, nonetheless.

Best idea!

It doesn’t seem like Google really enforces their TOS unless somebody complains. There are many sites that are still using various image tricks to increase clicks.
My google revenue is far too valuable to lose so I abide by the TOS

Really old news.

What ad?
March 22nd, 2007 at 5:33 am
Wow! That really is quite clever, but I do agree with what has been said, it is against the rules, and I don’t want to risk my losing google adsense, so I won’t be doing anything like this anytime soon.

This is a tough one. It’s true that Google’s TOS prohibits using graphics to draw attention to ads … wait a minute … what ads? I didn’t see any ads!

If no one is unhappy with the ads, Google will never learn about it. No one complains, and everyone is happy. I guess Google just do not have the time to monitor closely at such stuff.

Google is definitely checking websites and ad placements when you are ready to receive a payout.

Sex sells, was there an ad there?
March 22nd, 2007 at 4:51 pm
backgrounds in ads are permited. but this one i think not
the guy(or girl) is in violation of the TOS.
By the way did anyone noticed that mybloglog is very very slow today, and auctionads is down?

Jonix, Do you wear your glasses??? It is definitely a girl

Saw you on Digg, followed the link…
How I recall the Adsense policies are:
- You are not allowed to make the ads mimic of parts of the site. They should clearly be ads.
- You are not allowed to place images next to the ads to making it appear that the text related to it is exactly about the photo. Let’s say on a 300×300 box with 4 lines of ads about cameras, there are four thumbnails beside it that are pictures of cameras.
Since this picture is not in a way pretending to be a thumbnail of products of each listed ad, I think this is ok. And the fact that it is an image holding up a sign makes the ad really appear like a sign. And signs are usually ads, so it is not deceiving.
I believe if shown to a Adsense rep, they would accept this.

Nomar, i was talking the GUY = owner of the site, not the background photo of the ad lol lol lol.
Benj, the TOS of adsense are wide-open, if they want, this is a violation
March 22nd, 2007 at 6:50 pm
lol @ Jonix, I didnt know
You might be right Benj, I agree on Jonix that the tos is wide open….
i will not serve ads like this, thats for sure
March 23rd, 2007 at 6:19 am
I think it is breaking the rules, because they made it where you can’t have images next to ads. If no one complains or reports it, I’m guessing that google won’t care…or find out for that matter
March 23rd, 2007 at 12:54 pm
I don’t think this is break the rules as the image is not designed to influence the ads or make them appear to be part of the site. If anything the image further sets the ads apart from the site.
March 23rd, 2007 at 4:21 pm
You hit the poing steve. Google TOS prevents that. You cannot call attention to the ads. With that background you are puting alot of attention to the ads. The problema with adsense is that you never know when will it be a violation or not, and since the TOS is very wide open, google can ban when they want allways saying that is a violation of the TOS.

Yes this ad for sure breakng the rule u can’t change the original idea of ad but can place effects around the ad to make it look like the part of the site.
April 1st, 2007 at 6:21 am
Of late Google has changed the rule and now it is strict… BTW dont try this at “home”
April 5th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
Joinx you make the point that you can’t call attention to the ads, but this is where i always get confused with the use of PPC stuff like AdSense or YPN.
Logically as the owner of the site you want to maximize the clicks, but you cannot “call attention to the ads.” Normally off the the side of a site the ads are ignored by the user. Do we as the owner of the ads on our sites have no other choice but to put the ads right in the center of the posts?
April 5th, 2007 at 10:37 pm
We can put them everywhere we want though
April 7th, 2007 at 9:34 am
I always knew sex sell!
LOL…
