Semantic indexing is getting more and more important to search engines. This kind of indexing is very useful and search engines should all use this. It will bring in more targeted visitors from search engines. Till a few days ago I never heard of semantic indexing. In this post I am going to explain what semantic indexing is and if it will influence your search engine rankings.
Semantic indexing is easy to understand. It means that search engines are trying to associate certain terms with concepts when they are indexing your pages. A good example: Paris Hilton, these are 2 different words. The first word is a city in France, the second word is a hotel. If search engines will use semantic indexing they will associate these 2 words with the well known woman Paris Hilton instead of the city and hotel.
Search engines can find the relation between this words because many websites contain both the word Paris and the word Hilton. The search engine might assume that these keywords are related and that it means something. These two words on all these different websites are giving the search engine a hint that this word combination (Paris Hilton) is about a woman.
Words that frequently appear very close to each other could get a tighter connection. Search engines have a lot of algorithms that allow them to calculate the relation between different words.

I look forward to part 2. I’ve seen a few tactic shifts due to this use of semantics but I’d love to hear a few more.
