Almost every blog has a blogroll. A place where you link to other bloggers that you read or just like. Recently I talked to David about this and I asked him to change my anchor text to Online Marketing instead of King Nomar. After that David made a blog post about it to ask the crowd. It ended up with some interested comments and now I want to discuss it with you.
What do you think of this? Should I change my anchor text on every other blog? Or leave it the old way. I am not so sure anymore. If my name will be on a lot of blogrolls they will know me and know who is behind it. They don’t know that when they see Online Marketing. But on the other side. Blogrolls are mostly for SEO purpose in my eyes. And comments will be made by Nomar and not Online Marketing of course.
I would like to know what you think about this. What do you think of the anchor text of a blogroll link ?

As you can tell I’m a fan of using Keywords in the blog roll and comments. You could always make the title of this blog “Online Marketing by King Nomar” and have an about page. That way people would still get the benefit of know who is behind the blog and you’d still be able to use the keywords in your blogrolls etc.

That is true seo refugee. But what if every blogger starts to use their keywords in blogroll. Than we have 1 big mess of the same keywords.
I am not sure what to decide yet, anyone else useful replies?

It is a good idea. You would probly get some extra clicks because of it.

I think you are walking the thin line between branding and seo.
What is of more value to you in the long run?
Will you always want people to associate “Online Marketing” with your name?
Maybe test out a few of them and see the results.
How do you think you will compete with the term online marketing?
Just a thought

I think it’s easy to overthink this.
Steve makes a great point. Personally I think branding is more important than SEO. Maybe it’s the best form of SEO.

Go for branding in the blogroll and SEO in the blog posts.

I never even thought of these options. I guess I’ll have to figure it out on my new page.

I think you should leave your anchor text the way it is for blogs who already gave you links. Work on getting that anchor text with people who could potentially add a link to your blog.

I think you have to evaluate your current marketing and SEO strategy and then create a solid SEO strategy, which may include changing all future anchor tags.
