The Google pagerank update is in a big delay. There are stories popping up on the web claiming that the Google pagerank is history. I talked with a few big guys in the web development world and they also heard these stories, even from sources that are very close with Google. This Google webrank will me the new pagerank!
Webrank will be given according to the number of relevant incoming links, quality of the content and relevant sites linking to. Now I hear you thinking “relevant sites linking to?”, I thought the same thing when I heared it, but it makes sense. Google is doing this to prevent buying links on other sites. People can still contact each other and ask for a link in the content. People cannot do this if the link has to be relevant. They still can, but not on a big scale!
If this Google webrank thing is real, than small players will get a better chance to get # 1 rankings in Google. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Nomar, Google is discussing getting rid of the toolbar PageRank which is pretty much useless anyway.

Also, all of your readers should know that the toolbar PageRank (the value so many place so much value on) has no bearing on the search engine rankings. Absolutely none.
Therefore, if Google does indeed kill off the toolbar PageRank, it will not change the rankings and it will not allow the “little guys” to get to the first page or top spots any more than they are now.
I don’t mean to be rude but for as often as you post about SEO, you distribute an alarming amount of false information.

interesting, i think this webrank will be better than page rank if it actually turns out this way. what is up with the delay of the page rank update, have you heard any reason or is it all because of this webrank?

It’s like some big monolithic company just decided to be like “hi, i’m Google. This method has worked and people are happy with it….. so I will go and turn the webmastering world on its head with some new ranking system. Haha!”

Matt, I don’t think they’re going to go through with it for that very reason. PageRank is something that even non-webmasters understand (or at least know about) and any new system they would introduce would have to do that as well. I just don’t see how it’s worth it to them. There’s no real good reason to get rid of it, especially since the toolbar form (which is what they are discussing ditching) doesn’t affect anything on their end.

it seems google’s been focused on relevancy for awhile so those SEOs purchasing high quality, relevant links will still rank in the SERPs and fly under the radar. SEOs have been buying links and will continue to buy links. this is no secret, it’ll just be harder and harder for google to find them. the good SEOs will keep winning until linking is no longer used to gauge a site’s ranking…no matter what you want to call it … “page rank” or “webrank”

My website was on the first page of google for the search terms taser, tasers, taser c2. But now its gone and not anywhere for those terms. I havent changed anything on my site. I did a site:wegotsecurity.com search on google and I am still there. I have been reading and they state it might be a google error or joke. Is this correct? They said to waite until the next index and I should be back up there.
