Regular readers of this blog know I am working on a directory network. Currently I have more than twenty web directories. My original plan was to create 100 web directories but I don’t know what to do right now. The pagerank update is not coming and I am nervous also. The plan was to create 100 web directories and sell links on them when I got a pagerank of 3/4 on them. This is not a hard job to achieve. But now the pagerank is not coming, I don’t know what to do.
Will people buy links on a site without pagerank? If pagerank will never update again it will take a while before people will buy links on sites with pagerank 0. The most web directories don’t have pagerank at all because I started them from scratch. Some of them have a good alexa (100-200k) but people give more value on pagerank.

Google don’t want us to buy links, that is why they skipped the pagerank update (at least that is what I think). We have to focus more on ads that will drive traffic to other pages. In my new design (which is coming soon) I have places for advertisers that are made more for traffic than only passing pagerank. I think everybody has to focus about that and have to forget pagerank.

Google isn’t going to stop people from buying links. If PageRank somehow becaomes less important or doesn’t update, people will find other benchmarks for pricing links. I wouldn’t worry too much. Just continue doing what you’re doing. I think this also gives you a good reason to diversify into other kinds of sites a little more.

Well, I would think if Google stopped doing Pagerank, Alexa rank would be the next benchmark. I hope it is as I have 3 brand new sites about to crack the 1 million mark.

Matt from google said it would be ‘weeks to months’ for the next update, and lots of directories are getting penalized and not showing up when you google their name.
Only good knows what is really going on, but I see a heck of a lot of directories for sale on the webmaster forums now, looks like everyone is panicking. I would say, don’t make any more for now, but don’t get rid of them for below what they are worth either.

And thusly an age of advertising and true content begins.
Will it work?
Will it save the Web 2.0 bubble from bursting?

I never saw the point in web directories. As for Google, I have sort of given up on the whole Page Rank think for now.

Yup, But for old and big guys, they will be more than happy to maintain their high rank easy and smooth. But for the others, its very important if they are to make any good money online.
I also noticed that some of the marketplaces have slowed down in buy sell…I am confused and angry…what next
