Promotion Mistakes
After you created your final layout and everything is ready to go, you need to promote your site. Promoting your site is a vital step in survival of your site! Without promoting you will not get visitors or any sales.
Most beginners gets so excited that they are going to spam everywhere they can. Making new threads on every forum they are registered on and leaving comments with an url everywhere. This is a big mistake! It might give you a few hundred of visitors in the first 2 days but your site’s reputation is already screwed (because of the spamming) and after the first 2 days the visitors will leave!
Never promote your website when it is still under construction!
Nobody wants to be on a site that is done for 50%. It is way better to start promoting your site when it is fully functional. If it is not fully functional, visitors might get a bad impression and those visitors will not return quickly.
Wrong methods of web page optimization!
I still see some websites that uses this method to hide text by changing its color with the background color, making it invisible to see for visitors (at first sight). Also don’t try to hide text by putting a layer above them. These methods worked back in 1998 when search engines were in their developing stages. Nowadays they are smart and will give you a penalty for that!
Don’t get involved with link making schemes!
I recommend you to increase your links to get a higher pagerank and higher SERPs and all. But do not try this by using unreliable link producing schemes. Search engines will notice this and give you a penalty for it. It is better to never involve in link farms because search engines will penalize sites that increase their incoming links at a massive speed! (sandbox)
The best way to gain links is the legal way. Get them from quality and relevant websites and your site should be doing fine!
Keyword Frequency!
You should not stuff your site only with keywords, instead of using your keywords over and over again concentrate on the quality of your content. It is better to use different keywords at different places in your site!
Don’t buy “targeted traffic”
Many websites claim that they will send 10,000 visitors or so. What do you think, will that be targeted traffic and will that traffic change into your potential customers? I recommend you not to buy any of these traffic sites. It will most likely not convert at all and is a waste of money.

That’s pretty right.If you try to trick search engines and think you will not get caught, then you are wrong.Today’s search engines are subjects to investment of millions of dollars to upgrade their algorithms and if today you tricked search engine then tomorrow expect to be penalized.
And remember - it is important to do search engine optimization, BUT don’t overdo it.
