Has anyone seen “Talladega Nights”? No, it’s not the greatest movie, but the scene in which Ricky Bobby is driving blindfolded, only getting feedback from the sound of hitting things, is reminiscent of a person running a site without proper analytics. Now Google’s effectively trying to take off the fabric and give you a LASIK procedure.
Four Google Analytics features that will soon be rolled out (if you’re not seeing them already) were announced at eMetrics San Jose. All of them seem to be worth taking the time to learn how to use.
First off, “Pivoting and Secondary Dimensions are new features available in most table views that allow inline cross-tabular analysis of data,” a post on the Google Analytics Blog explains. “You can use these new power features to do in-depth, on-the-fly analysis and see all the information in the same table. View data by two dimensions at once, such as keywords and cities. Next, pivot by another dimension such as source, while also viewing two additional metrics such as visits and pages/visit…. all within a single table view.”
Fancy, right? An instructional clip shows just how interesting things can get.
Then there’s the ability to share reports - even after you’ve customized them. This could be important if you’re trying to get other people’s opinions.
Finally, “[I]f you have multiple profiles you will be able to pick and choose which ones get which Custom Reports and Advanced Segments associated with your account.”
